Your treatment will be personalized to address your specific pain, movement, limitations, and goals. Care may include hands-on manual therapy, guided therapeutic exercises, and functional activities. It may also include neuromuscular re-education to improve balance and coordination, and supportive modalities such as ultrasound, electrical stimulation, iontophoresis, or dry needling. Each approach is thoughtfully selected to reduce pain, restore mobility, promote healing, and help you return confidently to the activities that matter most to you.

How Physical Therapy Can Help

The benefits of physical therapy are extensive and depend on your unique needs. Physical therapy can help restore strength, mobility, coordination, and confidence in movement. Rather than only treating your symptoms, physical therapy focuses on improving how you move in everyday activities so that your body can heal, perform better, and stay resilient over time. Physical therapists are experts in movement and addressing altered or inefficient movement patterns. A detailed assessment helps identify how your body is moving, where it may be compensating, and what factors contribute to pain or dysfunction.

Frequently Asked Questions

What insurance providers do you accept?

Monroe Physical Therapy currently participates with Medicare and MedRisk. We are actively working to expand participation with additional local insurance plans in the future.

For individuals who prefer or require self-pay services, we offer transparent self-pay pricing:

  • Initial Evaluation: $100
  • Follow-Up Visits: $45

Self-pay services are available for individuals without insurance coverage or who choose not to utilize their insurance benefits, where permitted by payer policies.*

Our goal is to provide high-quality physical therapy care while continuing to expand insurance participation.

Insurance coverage and billing eligibility may vary by plan. Our staff can help verify benefits and determine the most appropriate billing option prior to your visit.

If you have questions about coverage or payment options, please contact us; we are happy to help.

What should I wear to my first appointment?

Wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move easily. It’s also helpful if your clothing is loose enough to provide access to the area being treated. For example, if you are coming in for a knee issue, wear pants that can be pulled up high enough for the therapist to observe and palpate the joint.

What should I expect from my first appointment?

Your first visit will be about getting to know you and understanding what’s affecting you. Expect to be heard, believed, and involved in the process from the start.

Discussion and Medical History

We’ll begin by discussing your symptoms, concerns, medical history, daily activities, and goals. This helps gain understanding of how your condition is affecting your life—not just where it hurts.

Movement and Physical Assessment

Next, we’ll assess how you move. This may include looking at posture, strength, flexibility, balance, coordination, and how specific joints or muscles are functioning. The exam is tailored to you and your comfort level.

Education and Understanding

You’ll learn what may be contributing to your symptoms and how your movement patterns relate to what you’re feeling. Questions are always encouraged.

Initial Treatment

Depending on your needs, treatment may begin during the first visit. This could include hands-on techniques, guided exercises, or strategies to help reduce symptoms right away.

Treatment Plan and Next Steps

By the end of the session, we will work together to create a clear plan and outline the next best steps for your care, so you leave knowing what to expect and how to move forward.

How do physical therapists help?

Physical therapists are educated to manage a wide variety of physical deficits that can occur across our lifespan. Conditions that are especially well-suited for physical therapy treatment include:

  • Injuries or the onset of pain involving muscles, tendons, ligaments, joints, or entire regions of the body
  • Symptoms such as numbness or tingling, weakness, acute or chronic dizziness, concussion
  • Declines in function, strength, or balance related to aging or disease.

Physical therapists also serve as long-term partners in care for individuals managing chronic conditions such as postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS), Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (EDS), hypermobility, fibromyalgia, dysautonomia, and rheumatologic diseases.

Is physical therapy painful?

Physical therapy can occasionally be uncomfortable or painful, but at Monroe Physical Therapy, we don’t believe in “no pain, no gain.” Our goal is to stay within your comfort zone, talk through all tests and procedures before we do them, and help you leave the clinic feeling better than when you arrived.

How long does a physical therapy visit take?

Your initial visit will be about 60 minutes, and follow-up visits are typically 45 minutes long.

How often will I need to come to physical therapy?

The length and frequency of care varies from person to person. You may need just one visit, or you may benefit from multiple visits over a few weeks, depending on your diagnosis, symptom severity, and medical history. You will be re-evaluated on a monthly basis, and when you see your doctor, we will provide you with a progress report with our recommendations.

A primary goal is to find treatments to give you relief while you’re in the clinic as well as at home. Over time, these strategies become your personal toolbox for managing symptoms on a regular basis. We’ll work to identify the root cause of the problem, which allows us to build a customized program and a clear roadmap to address underlying deficits so you can rely on that toolbox less and less as your body becomes stronger and more resilient.

How will progress be measured?

Progress in physical therapy is measured in several ways, including changes in your symptoms, functional abilities, and overall movement quality. We use objective measures such as strength, range of motion, balance, endurance, and standardized outcome questionnaires, along with your personal goals and feedback. Your progress is formally reassessed on a regular basis to ensure treatment remains effective and aligned with your needs.
